background

This is a multi-centre prospective study investigating the genetic, tumour and environmental determinants of survival in melanoma patients with stage III disease (SNB +ve or clinically detected nodes).

The study will assemble and follow-up a cohort of patients with newly diagnosed nodal disease in the period 2007 to 2011. Participants will be recruited from Europe by clinicians involved in the treatment of patients with malignant melanoma.

The aims of the study are to examine whether survival from melanoma patients with a positive nodes can be predicted more accurately than using SNB positivity alone, by taking into account additional factors such as histological characteristics and genetic analysis of the primary tumour. The study is also designed to identify lifestyle and hereditary factors to affect the likelihood of survival.

Collaborators are welcome from any European hospital.
