A paragraph describing the group

The photobiology research group studies the effects of solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) on skin. The group’s work focuses on the assessment of risk factors for skin cancer, such as skin type (e.g. Celtic versus Mediterranean) dependent differences in natural photoprotection (tanning), epidermal DNA repair capacity, apoptosis and susceptibility to immunosuppression by UVR.

The group also works on the photodermatoses, especially polymorphic light eruption (PLE) and strategies for acute and long-term protection by sunscreens against the harmful effects of UVR, including DNA photodamage, immunoprotection and skin cancer. The research group works closely with its clinical colleagues who investigate and treat patients that are sensitive to UVR.
